Each loan payment earns simple interest at the annual rate divided by 12 for the whole months before repayment starts. The comparison either pays that interest during study or adds it once to the loan. Repayment then uses monthly reducing-balance EMI at the rate you enter.
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1)
P is the balance when repayment starts, including unpaid study-period interest if it is added to the loan. The monthly rate r is the annual interest percentage divided by 1200, and n is the number of repayment months. At zero interest, EMI = P ÷ n.
The time before repayment starts includes the course and any moratorium. Study-period interest for each amount is the amount received × r × its remaining whole months before repayment. The calculator applies this to each staged payment.
For example, ₹1 lakh received at the start and ₹1 lakh in month 6, at 12% annual interest with repayment starting after 12 months, accrues ₹18,000 before repayment. Over 12 repayment months, the EMI is ₹17,769.76 when that interest is paid during study and ₹19,369.04 when it is added to the balance.
SBI’s repayment guidance explains how unpaid study-period interest can be added to principal. Use the actual terms of your loan offer for your calculation.
Enter the loan amounts, constant annual interest rate and repayment months. EMI uses the balance when repayment starts, the annual percentage divided by 1200 as the monthly rate, and the number of repayment months. At zero interest, monthly EMI is the starting repayment balance divided by those months.
The time before repayment starts includes your course and any additional moratorium. In this comparison, each loan amount earns simple interest for its remaining whole months in that period. Paying that interest leaves the borrowed principal to repay; adding it once to the loan increases the repayment balance and EMI.
In this comparison, paying all interest during study leaves only the borrowed principal to repay. Adding unpaid interest to the loan increases the starting repayment balance and the later EMI. Enter the rate and repayment terms from your loan offer.
Yes. Enter the amount received at the start and an optional second amount with its month. Each amount earns simple monthly interest only for the months between receipt and the start of repayment.
The result shows payments during study, the balance when repayment starts, the later EMI, repayment interest and total paid. It uses a constant rate, simple interest before repayment and monthly reducing-balance EMI afterwards. Fees, rate changes, partial study-interest payments, subsidies and prepayments are not included.
