How the XAT score is calculated
The published 2027 rule gives 1 mark for each correct Part 1 answer and deducts 0.25 for each incorrect answer. Unanswered questions are counted across all three Part 1 sections: eight are allowed, then each extra one deducts 0.10. GK is calculated separately.
Part 1 score = correct − 0.25 × incorrect − 0.10 × max(0, unanswered − 8)
Count correct, incorrect and unanswered questions across VALR, Decision Making and QA/DI before applying the formula. The max term is zero for eight or fewer unanswered questions, so the allowance is used once across Part 1.
With 43 correct and 20 incorrect answers, eight unanswered questions give 38.00 marks. A ninth unanswered question adds a 0.10 deduction, giving 37.90. GK answers and blanks do not change either result.
For example, 43 correct, 20 incorrect and 12 unanswered Part 1 questions give 43 − 5 − 0.40 = 37.60 marks. Twelve correct GK answers give 12 separately. These are raw marks, without a percentile conversion.
The official XAT 2027 marking rules describe section counts as approximate. Use the answer counts for the paper you are scoring.
XAT scoring questions
Can I calculate XAT marks without uploading a response sheet?
Yes. Enter the correct, incorrect and unanswered counts for VALR, Decision Making and QA/DI, with optional GK counts. This manual calculator does not read a response-sheet URL or upload, and it does not predict a percentile.
What is the penalty for eight or nine unanswered XAT questions?
Across the three Part 1 sections together, eight unanswered questions have no skip deduction. Nine unanswered questions deduct 0.10 marks. For 43 correct and 20 incorrect answers, the raw score is 38.00 with eight unanswered and 37.90 with nine. GK blanks do not use this allowance.
How are XAT raw marks calculated?
Each correct Part 1 answer adds 1 mark and each incorrect answer deducts 0.25. The first eight unanswered questions across VALR, Decision Making and QA/DI have no penalty. Each further unanswered question deducts 0.10. Section marks are shown before this shared deduction.
Does GK change the main XAT score?
GK is shown separately. Each correct GK answer adds 1 mark, with no wrong-answer or unanswered-question deduction. The official site says GK does not contribute to the overall percentile or cutoff score.
Does this calculator predict my XAT percentile?
It calculates raw marks from the answer counts you enter. It does not convert marks to a percentile or predict an interview call.
Are the question counts fixed for XAT 2027?
The official site describes its section counts as approximate. Enter every correct, incorrect and unanswered question from the paper you are scoring. The calculator uses those counts rather than enforcing a final paper length.
