Its MBA 2026-28 policy, the latest published when we checked on 29 September 2026, had a batch size of about 300 and a merit list of CAT 42%, personal interview 30% and profile 28%. The policy for MBA 2027-29 (CAT 2026 cycle) was not yet published. IIM Jammu was founded in 2016 under IIM Lucknow mentorship, ranked 35 in NIRF Management 2025, and holds BGA and EFMD accreditations. IIM Jammu CAP interviews are generally described as conversational and not high-stress. Two panelists engage in genuine dialogue rather than rapid-fire grilling. However, don't mistake relaxed for easy - they probe deeply into your academic background (especially core subjects from graduation), career motivation, and "why MBA, why now" logic. The 15-20 minute interview covers your profile comprehensively. Creative personality questions occasionally appear to break rehearsed patterns.

What to expect at each stage.
Candidates who meet the CAP cut-offs register on the common CAP portal (run by IIM Jammu in the CAT 2025 cycle). IIM Jammu's own policy for MBA 2026-28 set PI shortlist minimums for the General category at 72 in each section and 91 overall for male candidates, and 71 in each section and 89 overall for female candidates, and noted these could move after the CAT 2025 result. These are last cycle figures; CAT 2026 cut-offs will be set after results in January 2027.

Check both overall and sectional cutoffs - missing a sectional cutoff disqualifies you even with a high overall percentile. IIM Jammu also runs SAP (Supplementary Admission Process) for candidates who meet their criteria but not CAP cutoffs.
Shortlisted candidates register for CAP through the common portal and choose interview cities and slots. The common PI is conducted offline.
This is administrative - but ensure all documents are uploaded correctly. Errors can delay your process.
Book slots early for your preferred city. Some candidates report morning slots have fresher panelists. Ensure travel arrangements allow buffer time for any location issues.
Panel of 2 faculty members conducts conversational interview. Covers academics (especially graduation subjects), career motivation, profile highlights, and occasionally creative personality questions. The IIM Jammu MBA 2026-28 policy lists no separate WAT or GD. Format is offline at designated centres.
Academic depth, communication clarity, career goal specificity, genuine motivation for MBA, personality and cultural fit.
The "conversational" style is real but don't slack. Know your academics cold - this is the core focus. Show commitment to MBA path without negativity about alternatives. Panelists appreciate genuine dialogue over rehearsed speeches.
For MBA 2026-28, IIM Jammu calculated the merit list as CAT 42 marks + PI 30 marks + profile 28 marks. Profile was academic profile 10 (10th 2, 12th 3, graduation 5), work experience 10 (best score for 24 to 36 completed months) and gender diversity 8.
Holistic assessment - strong CAT score needs decent PI performance, strong PI can compensate for borderline CAT.
PI performance is critical. Poor PI (below minimum threshold) means rejection regardless of CAT score. The PI carries 30 of the 100 merit-list marks in the 2026-28 policy.
